I cannot for the life of me decide if I like this idea or not.
On the one hand, it'd greatly diminish the role of the logi, one of my main roles, if it could repair armor at even a standard repper rate. It'd be a constantly focused, always close, never losing line of sight beam of rep. Sure they can be destroyed, but while the enemy is aiming for the floating, moving ball you're probably getting shots in on their face. And if it is destroyed you can go to the nearest build-a-bear workshop and replace it with another one. There would be a decline in logibros and potential logistics users, and there are few enough of those as it is. At least that I've seen.
On the other hand, logis have one of the easiest, highest SP gaining roles in the game. Go in with a decent squad or even just a heavy or two, make sure they're someone who knows to cover their healer and let them run into danger. You just need to make sure your strafe game is good if you want to keep up with the damage your guy is taking without dying or losing line of sight. Not to mention not everyone is lucky enough to run a match with a logi who wants to follow you, specifically you, around and help keep you alive. Especially if you aren't wielding an HMG. Something I'm pretty damn guilty of, myself. Heavies are our babies and we need to make sure they're properly nourished with plenty of nanos.
For the drone shooting anyone getting into 10-15 meters, most reds who get into that range either have a shotgun or nova knives. By the time I turn around to help my drone deal with them I'll probably be dead unless they're a total noob. And I doubt the drone will be that large of an asset in a firefight, otherwise it'd be too OP. So it's either constant running whenever your drone fires at something stupid enough to get close to you or you about face and hope you aren't looking at the muzzle of a shotgun or a knife in your ribs. Plus a 10-15 meter range for doing nothing but zapping reds leaves it near useless since it's not going to defend itself if someone wants to take it out from a distance, likely wouldn't be powerful enough to pose a threat if it did, and most engagements take place at distances much further than 10-15 meters. It would literally only be useful for early warning shotgun/nova knife wielders.
Which I guess is actually pretty nice if you're real good at getting the f*ck out of the way, but not everyone is.
Now, as for the suggestions Delta514 made, I would really like to have a mobile nano-hive, even if it ran out of nanobots and popped just like the regular ones, even if it had a lower resupply rate than the weakest nano-hive. I hate running low on ammunition and having to decide if I want to deploy a nano-hive and have one less for later, in case there's an actual large scale battle. Having a mobile nano-hive unit would be wonderful. The downside to this would be the nano-drone deciding when to resupply. I don't want it to give me back the five bullets from an AR I used to take out a Scout. That's a waste.
And I would definitely use a scanner version, as well. But I think this one would probably get the most flak for basically being an easy-mode scanner device. You don't have to switch to it to activate it, it'll constantly be scanning, and it'll basically kill most stealth suits.
The scout drone seems like it'd be a bit complicated, though. I'm not sure what to say about that. |
